Cultural Norms for Greeting the people of Thailand:
The standard, polite greeting is: สวัสดี (sà-wàt-dii).
Always add a polite particle: ครับ (khráp) for male speakers and ค่ะ (khâ) for female speakers.
In many casual situations, Thais greet each other with contextual questions like:
“Where are you going?” ( ไปไหน)
or
“Have you eaten?” ( กินข้าวรึยัง).
The wai ( ไหว้) is a respectful gesture that often accompanies a verbal greeting.
